Last year, while promoting her critically acclaimed film “The Substance,” Demi Moore reflected on the significant experience during an interview with Deadline.

She recalled her initial skepticism when reading the script. The mix of genres – love, thriller, humor – was surprising, especially coming from a director known for slapstick comedy, a sentiment she also felt about Coralie Fargeat, director of “The Substance,” as discussed in the interview. She admitted having reservations, aware that the outcome could be brilliant or a complete flop.

“I remember reading the script and realizing it was a love story, a thriller, and a comedy, and I had a very similar feeling with a director who had never ventured into these kinds of genres before. He had done Airplane.”

She continued: “It was a bit of the same thing, meaning it could work or be a disaster, but what I knew was that if it worked, it could strike a chord. It could resonate in a way that could be transformative.”

A Touch of Healing

As it turned out, the film deeply touched millions of viewers, many of whom were dealing with loss, mourning, or in search of a message of hope.

Demi Moore explained: “Even today, people tell me they love the film because it helped them cope with the loss of a loved one, giving them a sense of connection and hope, in a way that was again beyond what you could hope for in some ways. But you know, the true depth isn’t something you could anticipate or expect. I’m still amazed by the reaction to this film.”
