Discover the Origins of Jeff and Cathy’s Accents in “Les Tuche” with Stars Jean-Paul Rouve & Isabelle Nanty!

Isabelle Nanty (Cathy) recently disclosed the origins of the accents used by the Tuche family characters, revealing that they are not all from the north!

Where exactly do the distinctive accents of Jeff and Cathy Tuche come from? Contrary to popular belief, while Jean-Paul Rouve (Jeff) adopts an accent from the north, the same cannot be said for Cathy, played by Isabelle Nanty.

During an appearance at the Star Academy to promote the Tuche films, the actress shared the origins of the unique voices of the Tuche characters, which do not represent the same region of France:

“[Cathy’s voice] is an accent from my region. I’m from the East of France, from Meuse. We drag a lot [the voice]. I had to speed it up a bit, otherwise the movie would have been two hours long.”

“Jean-Paul, he moves his jaw forward. [For him], it’s childhood. In fact, since we are children, we speak with our original accent. Jean-Paul is from the North, from Dunkirk, so he speaks exactly as he heard when he was little, and [so do I]. So it’s immediate. That is, we get into the state of being innocent and immediately, [the accent] comes out like that.”

The voices of the Tuche parents have become so iconic that impersonators eagerly take on Cathy and Jeff. These performances pay tribute to the characters and have moved Jean-Paul Rouve, who was recently a guest on the show AlloCiné Big Screen:

The fifth installment of the Tuche series hits cinemas this Wednesday featuring Jean-Paul Rouve, Isabelle Nanty, and the rest of the family. Nanty will also star in the comedy “Sweet Jesus,” which premieres on April 9, and Rouve will appear in Kyan Khojandi’s series “brief.2,” returning February 14 on Disney+.
