The Man Guiding Trump and Overseeing Federal Operations, Including Nuclear Weapons
This is the individual selected by President Donald Trump to provide counsel and manage the intricacies of the federal government, nuclear arsenal included. But the question arises, is he “almost always sober” in carrying out these duties?
Even though today is April Fool’s Day, the concerns raised here are serious and no laughing matter. It’s probable that many readers have already formed an opinion about the somewhat erratic behavior exhibited by our acting president.
On January 6 of the previous year, The Wall Street Journal published a headline stating:
Elon Musk Has Used Illegal Drugs, Worrying Leaders at Tesla and SpaceX
The drug in focus here is ketamine, a strong anesthetic and hallucinogen that is known for its addictive properties. Musk claims he uses ketamine under medical supervision to manage chronic depression. He assures that he is “almost always sober” when tweeting in the early hours, and insists that his drug use does not interfere with his demanding 16-hour workdays.
This is the advisor President Donald Trump has chosen, tasked with overseeing the operations of the federal government, including its nuclear weapons. Is he “almost always sober” while performing these critical duties? This same individual dominated the conversation more than anyone else at Trump’s initial Cabinet meeting, which included the newly confirmed secretary of defense, and where neither his position nor his self-created department of government efficiency (intentionally not capitalized) had been approved by Congress. Yet, he and Trump conjured this up through an executive order, disregarding the fact that the Constitution assigns the power to create federal departments to Congress. It seems the Constitution is merely a trivial obstacle for them.
Consider also the promotional event he orchestrated with Trump’s endorsement, transforming the White House into a virtual Tesla showroom. Perhaps Trump earned a commission. Regarding his principles, this is a man who declined to disclose whether he would permit hate speech on his social media platform. His ethical compass was clear when he declared, “The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy.”
Now, would you trust this man to justify Trump’s tariffs, which are inflating the costs of your groceries, fuel, and housing? Would you allow him to overlook or defy court orders as he pleases, as he has done before? Would you let him dismantle Medicare and Social Security, which many rely on? Would you let him undo efforts to mitigate the nationwide impacts of climate change? Would you want him snooping into your personal data? Would you trust him with access to our nuclear weapons during an era described by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists as the most perilous point of the nuclear arms race?
Apparently, many of our country’s billionaires would, as long as their wealth continues to grow with the world’s richest man at the helm.
Perhaps Mr. Musk is indeed using ketamine responsibly to treat his depression. Let’s temporarily accept that possibility. But does that mean he should be leading the federal agenda at the cost of essential social programs, while Mr. Trump provides his peculiar form of diversion?
Meanwhile, those running Congress remain compliant, and the opposition appears to weakly hope for some form of relief by 2026.
This is the cruel joke our leaders are playing on us during this year’s Feast of Fools.
