The next chapter of this iconic historical series from the 2000s will premiere in December on the American platform Starz.
A new Spartacus series is set to be released soon. The life of the most famous gladiator was first adapted in 2010 in a gritty and dark series that did not shy away from the brutal violence of the arena combats. Andy Whitfield originally portrayed Spartacus in the first season of the show, before Liam McIntyre took over in subsequent seasons following Whitfield’s untimely death.
A massive hit with audiences, the series also spawned a prequel titled Gods of the Arena. Now, more than ten years after the original series concluded, another spin-off is on its way. Titled House of Ashur, this new series focuses on the character Ashur (played by Nick E. Tarabay).
Are More Spartacus Series Planned?
No, the former gladiator who died in season 2 of Spartacus won’t be returning from the dead, as this spin-off aims to explore an alternative reality. House of Ashur offers us a chance to imagine what Ashur’s fate might have been if he had not been killed by Naevia.
This new series is written by Steven S. DeKnight, the creator of Spartacus who is also known for his work on the Netflix version of Daredevil. Should it prove successful, further spin-offs could potentially follow, including a direct continuation of season 3, which is already in development.
House of Ashur, derived from the Spartacus universe, will premiere on December 5 on Starz in the United States, with a release date yet to be announced in France.
