A Heartwarming Year-End Film
Many viewers have been touched by the strength of the narrative and its message of hope. This feel-good movie, perfect for ending the year, is driven by the impeccable performances of Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. According to audiences, it provides a warm and emotional conclusion to the year.
Gab (5/5): “A masterpiece! Especially since the acting this time is very engaging!
With the great Hugh Jackman and the excellent Kate Hudson (who makes a Hollywood comeback through this film, having been absent for a while); it makes you feel like you can soar!
Let’s believe in our dreams despite adversity.“
Sebou36 from the AlloCiné Club (5/5): “This is a beautiful film that reignites the desire to experience cinema in a real movie theater. The direction is quite classic and that feels good. If you like music and love stories like A Star Is Born, this film is for you. The naysayers and the arrogant can skip this one.“
Isa60 (5/5): “I loved this film! A film about life, love, struggles, and I discovered some beautiful songs. And above all, Hugh Jackman is incredible! Go see it without hesitation!“
Jane_goodale (4.5/5): “It would be a shame to miss this wonderful film that is both sweet and sad. We laugh, we cry, we enjoy, and we come out revitalized.
Between a tribute to Neil Diamond and a sentimental rebirth, the film celebrates the strength of dreams and music as a cure and resilience factor.
Hugh Jackman, with his multifaceted acting, takes on a role that straddles his two worlds: stage performance and inner emotion. He joyfully demolishes his heartthrob image, playing a man scarred by unfulfilled dreams. His voice, at times broken, at times fiery, becomes an extension of a character seeking dignity and light.
Opposite him, Kate Hudson brings a persistently gentle presence. She embodies the quiet resistance of a woman who sings not to falter, to keep her relationship afloat, and to preserve what remains beautiful in life. She is remarkable.
In short, this film is my best cinema moment of 2025.“
Ed_loisel from the AlloCiné Club (4/5): “A romantic musical that makes you want to live. Well-written and very engaging characters, a bit of humor, emotion, and especially dazzling performances by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson!“
Too Long and Overdone to Convince
However, the film’s magic doesn’t resonate with all viewers. Some feel that this Hollywood musical doesn’t bring anything genuinely new to the genre and believe that Hugh Jackman has shone brighter in other roles.
Frederic D (4/5): “A very nice evening to the tunes of Neil Diamond. Great acting all around. Just a bit too long for my taste.“
Coraly (3.5/5): “If you like musical films, melodramas, Hugh Jackman, and Kate Hudson, go for it! ‘Bluesy Tunes’ may not be a great film, but it touched me with its positive characters, its beautiful tribute to second-tier artists, sincere and passionate, who struggle as much as they dream, and who share their love of music with the public. As refreshing as it is moving.“
Kat’s eyes (2/5): “I was hoping for much more from my first film of 2026. I really like Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman, but they absolutely did not convince me in this film. While the first part is quite nice, though ultra-kitsch and vintage, the second part, very melodramatic, turned out to be a long ordeal. Neither the performances, the music, nor the script touched me, despite the obvious intention. Everything was too marked, too long, lacking subtlety, except for the character of Mike, who turns out to be more solid in his values than one might have imagined, behind the avalanche of sequins that hid him. The film is still a small disappointment, given Hugh Jackman’s talent for musical roles. It mostly made me want to rewatch The Greatest Showman.“
In Summary
Overall well received, “Bluesy Tunes” captivates with its musical energy, tribute to Neil Diamond, and the chemistry between Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. Many praise its feel-good aspect and message of hope, even if some regret a direction considered too classic and a sometimes forced narrative. A film that slightly divides, but touches a broad audience in search of emotion and music.
“Bluesy Tunes” is currently in theaters.
