Jenna Ortega to Star in Remake of Iconic ’90s Thriller – Details Inside!

“Wednesday” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” star Jenna Ortega is set to appear in the upcoming remake of the ’90s cult thriller “Single White Female,” originally starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Jenna Ortega’s career shows no signs of slowing down. With the second season of “Wednesday” expected around 2025 and a film featuring singer The Weeknd, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” slated for release next May, the actress will also lead a new adaptation of “Single White Female.”

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the American star and Taylor Russell – known for her role in “Bones And All” with Timothée Chalamet – will both headline this project, described as a reboot of the ’90s thriller.

A Revival of ’90s Thrillers?

Released in 1992, Barbet Schroeder’s “Single White Female” capitalized on the popularity of erotic thrillers, a genre that soared in popularity from the late ’80s. In the movie, driven by Bridget Fonda and a haunting Jennifer Jason Leigh, two young women meet and become roommates. The life of Alison (played by Bridget Fonda) turns nightmarish as Hedra (Jennifer Jason Leigh) begins to develop a consuming obsession with her.

Before becoming a film, “Single White Female” was a novel written by John Lutz and published in 1990. It’s unclear whether Jenna Ortega will play the role formerly held by Bridget Fonda or the darker, more menacing character played by Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Another remake of a famous thriller from that era, “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” is also in the works. The project, which began filming last December, will star Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Death Proof”) and Maika Monroe (“It Follows,” “Longlegs”).
