Just released on Disney+ and “All’s Fair” is already making history as one of the worst-reviewed series at its debut.
With a startling 0% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release, Ryan Murphy’s new series “All’s Fair” is setting records. Despite being universally panned by English-speaking media, it is paradoxically becoming a global social media sensation, fueled by mockery and meme culture.
In response to this avalanche of criticism, how is the show’s team handling the backlash? We’ve gathered several responses, and it appears they are embracing the old marketing adage: “all publicity is good publicity.”
Kim Kardashian’s Response
At the center of the criticism, influencer and businesswoman Kim Kardashian, who stars alongside Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, and Sarah Paulson, responded with irony on Instagram to the wave of hate: “Have you watched the year’s most critically acclaimed series yet!?!?!? All’s Fair is streaming now”
Accustomed to the harshness of social media, Kardashian seems to be leveraging the controversy to highlight the team’s hard work.
The Director’s Take
In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, director Anthony Hemingway defended Kardashian, praising her commitment and professionalism. He addressed critics who doubted her legitimacy before even watching the series:
“I love Kim Kardashian, and I want to put that out there. She didn’t have as much experience as the other actors. She knew this from the start, but she came in with an open mind and a commitment to do her best, and that’s the person I worked with every day. She is truly remarkable.”
“She’s always there for her children. She owns and manages several businesses. And not a single day did she not learn her lines by heart; not a single day did she not come prepared to support her fellow actors… We really enjoyed working together.”
Hemingway also reflected on his filming experience, thanking creator Ryan Murphy for the creative freedom he was given on set: “It’s a true playground for artists… I get to do what I love: create and imagine. Thanks to Ryan Murphy’s brand, we can tap into pop culture and the zeitgeist to tell authentic human stories.”
“All’s Fair” is available on Disney+, with new episodes every Tuesday.
