Snow White 2025: Why the Latest Trailer is Causing Yet Another Stir!

A new trailer for the live-action version of “Snow White” has just been released, featuring the dwarfs for the first time.

On March 19, 2025, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will make their cinematic return 88 years after David Hand’s animated version. As the first animated feature from Walt Disney Studios, the beloved film is being reimagined in live action. Rachel Zegler, known from the West Side Story remake and the Hunger Games prequel, stars as the heroine, while Gal Gadot portrays the evil Queen. This new film updates the classic 1937 animation, bringing modern elements to the tale. Rachel Zegler shared with Variety at the time of the project’s announcement, “She’s not just dreaming about true love. She dreams of becoming the leader she knows she can be, and the leader her late father told her she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true.”

Zegler also mentioned to EW that the original film was “extremely dated regarding women’s roles,” adding in an interview with Extra TV: “the original cartoon came out in 1937, and obviously, it focuses on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn’t go that route this time.” The live-action version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will clearly differ from the original, as already evidenced by the trailer.

Actor Andrew Burnap plays Jonathan, the Prince Charming of this film, who will not be rescuing Snow White, let alone kissing her while she is asleep.

Controversy Over the Seven Dwarfs

The latest trailer released today reveals for the first time the appearance of the dwarfs in Marc Webb’s film. Following criticism from Peter Dinklage about the “backward aspect of the story of the 7 dwarfs,” Disney announced that the dwarfs would be replaced by fantasy creatures, drawing criticism from actors with dwarfism.

It appears that the studio has ultimately decided to return to the Brothers Grimm’s original story but has created Doc, Grumpy, Dopey, Sneezy, Bashful, Sleepy, and Happy using computer-generated imagery. This decision has sparked mixed reactions online following the trailer’s release.

“These things will fuel my nightmares.”

“Why on earth did Disney create CGI dwarfs like this?! They look absolutely terrible. How is this a better representation than simply hiring actors with dwarfism?”

This new video also introduces the song “Slay,” an original track by the duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman, Aladdin). The live-action version of Snow White will be released in theaters on March 19 next year.
