“La Cage” is now fully available on Netflix, but did you fully grasp the ending? Let’s dive into some explanations!
Since its release on November 8, “La Cage” has been the latest series from Franck Gastambide on Netflix. Following his success with “Validé,” Gastambide introduces a five-episode drama set in the world of MMA, a sport still relatively unknown to the general audience.
Starring Melvin Boomer, “La Cage” follows the life of Taylor Keita, a young man who has faced numerous challenges. Determined to change his fortunes, he sees this sport as his ticket to success.
However, hardly anyone believes in him, and he must continuously prove his worth. Even in the final moments of the first season, nothing is certain for our protagonist. Warning: proceed with caution if you haven’t binged the show yet, as we’re about to unpack the series finale!
Decoding the Finale of “La Cage” on Netflix
Throughout the series, Taylor battles against a particularly hostile environment. It seems no one truly wishes him well, including his best friend, Niko (Antoine Simony), who operates more covertly.
Evidently envious of Taylor’s success and his romantic relationship with Elena (Edwige Ahonto), Niko can no longer bear his friend’s rising dominance. When Taylor wins his final bout against Ibrahim (Bosh) in the last episode, it’s too much for Niko to handle.
Instead of celebrating his friend’s victory, Niko decides to sabotage him. Remember, as Taylor exits the locker room celebrating his first championship, Niko encounters anti-doping agents arriving to conduct a test at the most unexpected moment to ensure the match was fair.
Niko then hatches a sinister plan to ruin his friend’s career: he plans to secretly dope him just before the test to invalidate his victory. To execute his plan, Niko asks the agents to come back later, allowing Taylor to enjoy his moment of triumph.
In reality, he uses this brief window to slip a banned substance into his best friend’s water bottle. While it might still be unclear if he went through with his plan when he offers Taylor the drink, it soon becomes obvious he did not hesitate, as his fingers are covered in powder.
Potential Season 2 of “La Cage”?
It is quite evident that the test conducted by the agents will come back positive, potentially disqualifying Taylor even though he won his fight fairly. How will he prove his innocence? Stay tuned for a potential season 2 of “La Cage” to find out more.
