Meet the Cast of Ryan Murphy’s New Medical Drama ‘Doctor Odyssey’

Forget firefighters and serial killers; the spotlight in Ryan Murphy’s latest series is on the medical team aboard a luxury cruise ship. Before setting sail, get to know the crew members of Doctor Odyssey.

As the days begin to shorten and the chill sets in towards the year’s end, if you’re already dreaming of your next vacation, Disney+ offers a chance to travel without leaving your couch with its new series, Doctor Odyssey. Premiering on Thursday, October 24, with its first two episodes, this new show by the prolific Ryan Murphy (9-1-1, Monstres, American Horror Story) takes you to sea.

Max is the new ship doctor on a luxurious cruise liner where the crew works hard under festive conditions. Max and his small team will need to use their wits to manage both extraordinary medical emergencies and their personal relationships, miles away from shore.

Before we cast off, let’s shine a spotlight on the members of this crew who handle medical cases and unusual situations with flair!

Joshua Jackson as Dr. Max Bankman

At the helm of the medical team, we find Joshua Jackson, the unforgettable Pacey from the hit series Dawson’s Creek, a role that brought him international fame alongside co-stars James Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, and Katie Holmes.

Jackson began his acting career early, making his screen debut at just 13 years old in Crooked Heart, before landing a role in The Mighty Ducks. In recent years, he has been seen mainly on television in series such as Fringe, The Affair, Little Fires Everywhere, and Dr. Death.

In Doctor Odyssey, Joshua Jackson might just overshadow Grey’s Anatomy’s Dr. McDreamy and McSteamy. A Yale valedictorian, a recipient of a humanitarian award from the United Nations, and a member of the pediatric committee at Johns Hopkins among others, his character Max Bankman is a picture of a accomplished doctor and is sure to win some hearts.

Phillipa Soo as Avery Morgan

While Max Bankman is new to the crew, not so for the two nurses in his team who have been working together on the ship for years. Confident and determined, Avery Morgan is eager to show her new boss the full extent of her skills, and perhaps more!

She is portrayed by Phillipa Soo, an actress who started on the stage and is best known to Broadway fans for her role as Eliza in the musical Hamilton. She has also appeared in the romantic comedy The Broken Hearts Gallery and the series Dopesick and Shining Girls.

Sean Teale as Tristan Silva

Tristan Silva, Avery’s colleague and also a nurse on the ship, is not thrilled about the arrival of his new superior. Extremely wary (and jealous!) of Max Bankman, a real competitive spirit develops between the two men. Under such conditions, will they manage to work together effectively on a daily basis?

Sean Teale plays Tristan. Revealed through the hit series Skins (seasons 5 and 6), like many other British actors of his generation, he continued his career on television portraying Prince Louis de Condé in Reign, and has also starred in Incorporated and The Gifted.

Don Johnson as Robert Massey

What would a ship be without its captain? Attentive to his passengers, Robert Massey is dedicated to ensuring that all vacationers have the best possible stay on board under the best conditions.

To take on this role, Don Johnson was chosen, famous for his part in Miami Vice. A fixture on both the big and small screen, viewers have seen him in The Hot Spot, Guilty as Sin, and more recently in Django Unchained and Knives Out, as well as in the series Nash Bridges, Just Legal, Eastbound & Down, and Watchmen.

Alongside this lead quartet, a few guest stars occasionally pop up on the ship, including Shania Twain, Chord Overstreet, and Margaret Cho.

The first two episodes of Doctor Odyssey are available now on Disney+. The series will continue on a weekly broadcast schedule.
