Narcos Star Teams Up With Ridley Scott & ‘The Batman’ Writer for Must-Watch Crime Series!

This Friday, subscribers to AppleTV+ (and its partners) can binge-watch the enticing new crime series “Dope Thief,” which boasts a compelling cast—and that’s not just referring to Ridley Scott.

Under the radar, AppleTV+ has just released “Dope Thief.” The platform is likely relying on word-of-mouth to promote its latest crime series, which is an adaptation of the un-translated American novel “Dope Thief” by Dennis Tafoya.

The series transports viewers to Philadelphia, where a group of criminals impersonate narcotics officers to rob a rural home. Unintentionally, they uncover the largest drug trafficking operation on the East Coast.

“Dope Thief” features a stellar cast. Wagner Moura, who dazzled audiences as Pablo Escobar in “Narcos,” returns to the small screen as one of the protagonists. He stars alongside the amiable Brian Tyree Henry (Bullet Train), the legendary Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek, OITNB), and Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible).

Wagner Moura’s involvement in the series was somewhat fortuitous. Originally, the role was given to actor Michael Mando (Nacho Vargo from Better Call Saul), but following an altercation with a co-star on set, the producers decided to recast the role.

An Action Master at the Helm

“Dope Thief” also catches the eye with its creative team. AppleTV+ series are typically synonymous with quality, and it’s intriguing to note that this one was created by Peter Craig, a screenwriter known for numerous blockbusters including “Top Gun: Maverick” (2022), “The Batman” (2022), and notably “The Town” (2010), which also revolved around heists, criminals disguised as police, and high-speed chases through Boston.

If you enjoyed “The Town,” then “Dope Thief” might just capture your attention. The pilot episode is directed by Ridley Scott, who is also an executive producer on the project. The acclaimed director is expected to deliver a cinematic lesson filled with tension, darkness, and plenty of action—a true hallmark of “Dope Thief.”
