Riverdale Star Features in BTS Music Video for New Album Release!

After nearly four years away due to mandatory military service, the South Korean sensation BTS made a highly anticipated return to the music scene with a new album, titled ARIRANG, released on March 20, 2026. To mark their comeback, the group selected “SWIM” as the lead single, which was accompanied by a stunning music video released on the same day.

Directed by Tanu Muiño, the “SWIM” music video prominently features actress Lili Reinhart, known for her role in Riverdale, in a pivotal role. Filmed in Lisbon, the video offers a visual journey through diverse landscapes and moments of poetic exploration. It features exquisite cinematography, a profound narrative, and mesmerizing music.

The video begins with Lili Reinhart’s character handling a compass in a museum filled with ship models, before finding herself on a ship at sea, possibly accompanied by the seven BTS members: RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook.

Indeed, in the video, her character seems to symbolize BTS fans, known as ARMY. The young woman, caught between moments of wandering, dancing, and deep distress, appears alone and lost. Although the group is seen near her, they are not physically present, symbolizing their message to fans that despite their prolonged absence, they have always been there – and will continue to be there through life’s journey. “I could spend my life watching you,” the song states.

In return, the young woman – reminiscent of Rose from Titanic, with her attire and the locket she wears – also symbolizes the fans’ support for the group: a gentle, constant, protective, and comforting presence. She seems to be an abstract representation of the love and loyalty of ARMY, which are universal and timeless.

The conclusion is enigmatic when Lili Reinhart’s character removes her locket around her neck, and she finds herself back in the museum, soaked from head to toe. It remains uncertain: was this journey real or imagined? The actress smiles at the camera… Who knows?

Regardless, the presence of Lili Reinhart immediately captured the attention of fans, particularly during the promotion of her latest movie Forbidden Fruits, which premiered on March 16 at the SXSW Film Festival in the United States. In this horror comedy, she stars alongside Victoria Pedretti (The Haunting of Hill House), Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty), and Alexandra Shipp (Barbie).

Clearly moved by this experience, Lili Reinhart turned to social media to thank BTS and their fans for the warm welcome they gave her.

The album ARIRANG includes 14 new songs, including “SWIM,” and represents an ambitious project for BTS, following their anthological album Proof released in 2022. Their agency, BigHit, conducted a massive promotional campaign, combining live events and exclusive content.

To celebrate this release, BTS partnered with Netflix, organizing BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, a live concert streamed on the platform on March 21, from the streets of Seoul, at Gwanghwamun Square, in front of the Gyeongbokgung Royal Palace. This global livestream, dubbed “The Return of the Kings,” attracted 18.4 million viewers online, counting live views and those within the following 24 hours, and reached the Top 10 on Netflix in 80 countries, taking the first place in 24 countries, confirming the phenomenal impact of the group. On-site, no less than 104,000 people gathered to watch the show.

When BTS Surpasses Stranger Things and Wednesday

BTS’s comeback also dominated social media. The Instagram post by Netflix announcing the live event became the most-liked post in the history of Netflix’s official account, with about 4.8 million likes at the time of writing, surpassing iconic titles such as Stranger Things (~4.54 million) and Wednesday (~3.9 million).

In addition to the live concert, still available on Netflix, the platform has been streaming since yesterday the documentary BTS: The Return – the trailer of which can be discovered alongside this article. Finally, the album ARIRANG is available in both physical and digital versions, offering fans around the world the opportunity to celebrate this exceptional return – just before their massive world tour of 79 to 82 dates announced between April 2026 and March 2027. BTS will notably be on stage at Stade de France on July 17 and 18 next year.
