Sanders Storms Coachella After Historic LA Rally Triumph!

Senator Bernie Sanders Urges Action at Coachella

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, together with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, concluded a significant Los Angeles event on their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour by making an unexpected appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, this past Saturday.

During the festival on Saturday evening, Sanders introduced the musician Clairo, commending her for leveraging her influence to advocate for women’s rights and to strive for an end to the devastating conflict in Gaza. Before presenting the artist, he delivered a powerful message to the younger attendees.

“Our nation is confronted with serious challenges, and what the future holds for America depends on your generation,” Sanders declared, receiving applause. “You have the option to look away and ignore the issues, but doing so would be at your own risk. We need you to rise up and champion justice—economic, social, and racial justice,” he emphasized.

Sanders didn’t hold back on his critique of then-President Donald Trump, especially his refusal to acknowledge the climate crisis.

As Sanders began criticizing the president, a wave of boos from the audience interrupted him.

“I agree,” Sanders responded, continuing his criticism by stating, “He believes climate change is a myth. This is not only incorrect but dangerously so.”

“It’s up to us to confront the fossil fuel industry and demand they stop their destruction of our planet,” Sanders urged the crowd further. He also called for support for women’s rights, an economy that values the working class over billionaires, and universally accessible healthcare.

Earlier that day, Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez spoke to an enormous gathering of 36,000 people at Gloria Molina Grand Park in Los Angeles, setting a new attendance record previously achieved in Denver in March. “Your presence here today is making Donald Trump and Elon Musk very nervous,” Sanders told the audience, highlighting the event’s impact.

The themes reiterated at the Los Angeles rally echoed throughout the “Fight Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here” tour, initiated by Sanders in February to oppose the billionaire-dominated governance and the tilt towards authoritarianism under Trump. “We are at a juncture where a few billionaires dominate our economic and political spheres… We live in times where the president disregards the U.S. Constitution, pushing us swiftly towards an authoritarian society,” Sanders stated, as reported by the Los Angeles Daily News.

“And, Mr. Trump, we will not be subdued,” he affirmed.

At the same event, Ocasio-Cortez criticized Trump’s recent erratic tariff policies, which she argued were manipulated to benefit insiders. “This tariff shuffle wasn’t about supporting manufacturing as claimed, but about market manipulation detrimental to retirees and the general populace, allowing Trump’s circle to profit from insider knowledge,” she explained.

Ocasio-Cortez also denounced the prevalent stock market speculation by members of Congress, questioning how unbiased decisions on healthcare, energy, or military issues could be expected from representatives with personal financial stakes in these sectors.

The rally also featured performances by Neil Young, Joan Baez, and others, and saw appearances from progressive leaders like Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Ro Khanna, among others. The gathering inspired many, with attendees expressing a renewed sense of hope and motivation.

“Being here, surrounded by people sharing uplifting messages, is exactly what I needed,” shared Tracy Setto from Palmdale, as reported by the Los Angeles Daily News.

The Los Angeles rally marked the beginning of a five-day tour across the Western U.S., with subsequent stops planned in cities including Salt Lake City, Nampa, Bakersfield, Folsom, and Missoula.

“Americans, whether Democrats, Republicans, or Independents, do not wish to see billionaires control our government or influence our elections,” Sanders stated, highlighting the purpose of the tour and his commitment to challenging oligarchic power across Republican-dominated districts.
