Just a few weeks after the grand finale of “Stranger Things,” a new series produced by the Duffer brothers has already announced its premiere date on Netflix.
The Duffer brothers are not resting on their laurels. While we wait for a “Stranger Things” spin-off (hopefully shedding more light on the series’ ending), they’re rolling out a fresh production on Netflix. While not the creators, the Duffers are serving as producers for this new project, titled “The Boroughs.”
It’s clear that the series is designed to follow in the footsteps of “Stranger Things,” though its initial premise is somewhat the opposite. This time, the series follows a group of retirees who are up against a supernatural force threatening the peace of their retirement home!
The Duffer Connection
The series features a cast of well-known actors, including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, and Bill Pullman. Like “Stranger Things,” “The Boroughs” sports a retro vibe, though it seems set in modern times. On Netflix’s promotional site, the Duffers have embraced the similarities between this new series and “Stranger Things”:
While the heroes of The Boroughs are older than the kids from Stranger Things, they are equally endearing misfits, and we are excited to join them on a journey that will be scary, fun, and touching.
While the first glimpses of the show are now available, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the series. The first season of “The Boroughs” will not be available on Netflix until May 21st!
