Super Mario Bros 2 Title Revealed, 2 Years After Global Smash Hit!

In 2023, Super Mario hit the big screen and took the box office by storm, amassing $1.3 billion globally. The animated film, a collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination studio, captivated fans around the world.

This success naturally persuaded the Kyoto-based company to initiate a sequel project. The second installment is set to premiere in theaters on April 1, 2026. In the meantime, consistent with its secretive reputation, the Japanese gaming company has yet to divulge any details about the highly anticipated sequel.

A Familiar Title?

However, a minor leak from NBC Universal has possibly revealed the official title of the saga’s second chapter. In a press release dated May 13 discussing its upcoming projects (and since corrected), the studio revealed the title: “Super Mario World.”

This title will certainly evoke nostalgic feelings among fans of the mustachioed plumber! Indeed, it shares its name with the Super Nintendo game released in 1991 in France. Having sold over 20 million copies back then, it remains one of the top games in the acclaimed franchise created by Shigeru Miyamoto, the father of Mario and Luigi.

This name makes sense considering the post-credits scene of the first Super Mario Bros. movie, where Yoshi, the iconic green dinosaur from the Nintendo saga, made his appearance. This character plays a significant role in the Super Mario World game, actively participating in the adventure as the plumber’s steed.

Thus, it’s conceivable that the plot will revolve around Yoshi, with Mario and Luigi embarking on wild adventures atop the dino’s back!
