This Christmas movie featuring Mark Wahlberg delivers four dads in one wildly entertaining comedy that’s a hit on Netflix.
Fatherhood can be tough. It gets even more complicated when quirky granddads show up and shake things up. In “Daddy’s Home 2,” Mel Gibson and John Lithgow disrupt the lives of their sons, who are now fathers themselves. And right now, the film is a big hit on Netflix!
Four Fathers in a Frenzy
In the original movie, Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) battled for custody of two kids, with Dusty being the biological father and Brad the stepfather. Just as they started to find their groove, their own fathers arrive for Christmas, ready to stir up all kinds of trouble.
Mel Gibson plays Kurt, Wahlberg’s character’s father, a fighter pilot and astronaut with an overwhelming military past, while John Lithgow portrays Don, overly friendly and seemingly hiding something, who is Ferrell’s character’s father.
Among the Most Watched on Netflix
These four actors deliver a performance full of over-the-top antics in a film that, while unambitious, proves to be quite unstoppable. “Daddy’s Home 2” doesn’t just focus on laughs and mix-ups; it also explores deeper themes like the young Dylan experiencing his first love, the longstanding unspoken issues and resentments Dusty has towards his father, and Brad uncovering a secret about his own dad.
Released directly to DVD in France in 2018, it’s no surprise that “Daddy’s Home 2,” set during the holiday season, gains more viewers on Netflix as the end of 2024 nears. It currently ranks seventh in the top most-watched movies on the platform.
