Tonight on TV: Don’t Miss This Hidden Gem Summer Comedy with Artus!

Every day, AlloCiné offers a film recommendation to enjoy on TV. Tonight’s pick: a wildly chaotic train journey with Artus!

Artus, a name now synonymous with blockbuster success following his hit “P’tit truc en plus,” which drew 11 million viewers across France (though he remains skeptical about its upcoming international remakes), stars in tonight’s feature. TMC is airing the overlooked 2023 comedy “Pardon Our Interruption,” a perfect entertainment choice for the summer season!

In “Pardon Our Interruption,” a creation from the director of the cult classic “Dikkenek,” Artus plays a diligent, professional train conductor dreaming of a transfer to the South of France. To secure his relocation, he must complete one final routine journey under the watchful eye of a slightly sociopathic inspector who refuses to leave him alone. That’s when everything goes off the rails: between a driver who thinks he’s in a fighter jet, a very jealous colleague, and passengers who are crazier than the last, what was supposed to be a straightforward trip turns into the worst journey of his life.

Belgian director Olivier van Hoofstadt set no limits on the humor in this film, poking fun at everyone from police officers to environmental activists. “There are situations, fully embraced, that are completely implausible because I enjoy the surreal, somewhat Belgian, aspect of this type of humor,” he remarks. “Of course, there will always be those who say it’s not believable, but honestly, that doesn’t bother me.”

An Overwhelmed Artus and a Zany Elsa Zylberstein

The film “Pardon Our Interruption,” a riotous enclosed space comedy, showcases a perfect performance by Artus as an utterly overwhelmed character, and finally allows audiences to appreciate Elsa Zylberstein’s quirky acting. “When I read the script, I saw a film that was both political and wild, reminding me of the crazy worlds of the Farrelly brothers and Adam McKay, which I love, with a touch of absurdity in the madness and irony akin to Quentin Dupieux,” the actress notes. “I thought it was a project that speaks to today, and this train, gathering a collection of whimsical and eccentric characters, was a metaphor for the modern world.”
