Vance Slammed by Greenlanders After Calling It ‘Cold as Sh*t’!

Greenlanders Show Cold Reception to Trump Administration Amid Acquisition Threats

Residents of Greenland are dismissing the Trump administration’s renewed interest in acquiring the Danish territory, responding with a notably chilly reception.

On a recent Friday, U.S. Vice President JD Vance, along with Second Lady Usha Vance and senior officials from the Trump administration, made a trip to Greenland. Their visit, however, was significantly scaled back from its initial scope due to the cool reception from the local population, amidst President Donald Trump’s continuous suggestions of taking the Arctic island from its NATO ally Denmark, using military force if needed.

The group, including National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, landed at Pituffik Space Base—a U.S. Space Force facility located about 930 miles north of Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, on the island’s northwestern shore. Originally, the Second Lady had plans to partake in more culturally engaging activities, such as a dogsled race. Yet, earlier this week, Greenland’s leftist government clarified that it had not issued any invitations for the visits, whether private or official.

Adding to the administration’s awkward position, reports surfaced that U.S. representatives had gone door to door in Nuuk trying to garner support for the visit, a claim the administration later denied. Consequently, the delegation’s interaction was limited to conversing with U.S. troops stationed at Pituffik. Upon arrival, Vice President Vance humorously commented to the troops that he was shocked to find the Arctic island “cold as shit,” jokingly adding, “Nobody told me!”

Vance then shifted to a more serious tone, criticizing Denmark’s role in Greenland: “Our message to Denmark is simple—you have not done a good job for the people of Greenland. You’ve under-invested in the people and the security infrastructure of this incredible, beautiful land mass.”

Discussing broader Arctic geopolitics, Vance stated the importance of recognizing Chinese interests in the region, emphasizing that we cannot ignore the strategic significance of Greenland. He argued for a stronger U.S. security presence, suggesting that Greenland would benefit more under the U.S. security umbrella than Denmark’s.

These comments followed Vance’s earlier remarks on a Fox News interview where he criticized Denmark for its lackluster alliance with the U.S., noting the high casualty rate Denmark suffered in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as inadequate support.

When asked if the U.S. would consider taking Greenland by force, Vance believed it wouldn’t be necessary, although Trump had previously stated his administration would go to great lengths to secure the island for national and international security reasons. Trump’s persistent interest in Greenland wasn’t new, with other officials echoing his sentiments about the island’s strategic resources such as oil, gas, and critical minerals.

Historically, the U.S.’s interest in Greenland has sometimes been to the detriment of its people and environment, as demonstrated in 1968 when a U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber with nuclear warheads crashed, causing widespread contamination—a situation still unresolved.

Prompting concern, outgoing Greenland Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede labeled Vance’s visit as “highly aggressive,” viewing it as a power display. Meanwhile, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke criticized the American stance, suggesting that Greenland already benefits from joint security under NATO, established post-World War II.

The sentiment on the ground in Greenland and Denmark was one of discontent towards the Trump administration’s approach, with local residents and business owners expressing dismay at what they perceived as bullying tactics. In Copenhagen, protests erupted against the U.S. delegation’s visit, with one protester accusing the administration of employing “mafia methods.”
