Cassandre: “This Role Was a Gift,” Is Gwendoline Hamon Quitting the Series?

Tonight marks the return of Cassandre with a brand-new episode on France 3! The series continues to captivate viewers of the network. But after eleven years since the show’s debut, does Gwendoline Hamon feel like stepping away from this beloved program of France 3?

“I will never abandon Cassandre”

In an interview with Gala, the actress was emphatic: “I will never abandon Cassandre, even if it sometimes prevents me from doing other things. I manage because the production and the network are flexible enough to allow me to do theater and film other movies. But it won’t be me who says goodbye.”

“This character has been a gift in my life, and I will fulfill whatever is asked of me with a lot of respect and loyalty. Maybe we’ll only do two a year instead of three or four, maybe just one… I don’t know. It could wind down slowly, without really stopping,” Hamon shared before discussing the reasons behind the series’ success:

“It’s a popular program, in the sense that it needs to appeal to as many people as possible. Of course, there’s the allure of the crime genre: people love crime stories, all over the world and especially in France. But then, it’s about whether they will connect with the characters who are telling the crime story.”

“It’s not an exact science, it happens by feel. You have to be as demanding and as genuine as possible, with truth, humor, and without excluding any part of the audience.” One thing is for sure, the audience continues to tune in after all these years, which is very touching for the actress:

“The head of fiction told me once that a series does very well when the audience grows attached to the main character. Of course, it’s also about the settings, the storyline, the actors… But if people grow fond of the character, if he becomes close to them and moves them, then they will follow him.”

“It has definitely touched me. I thought to myself that it meant I was doing my job well, because I am truly very dedicated to this series. And it’s my nature to be hardworking and committed, but I also knew the challenge that had to be met,” concludes Gwendoline Hamon.
