HBO Max has unveiled new images from the “Harry Potter” series. The television adaptation of the famous novels is expected to premiere at the end of the year on the platform.
A quarter-century after the release of the first film in the saga, Harry Potter is set to be reimagined in a brand new television series. This series promises to be a more faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novels, with each of the seven books in the famous franchise getting its own season.
A Fresh New Cast
Dominic McLaughlin, an actor not yet widely known but soon to be a global star, has been cast as the young wizard, succeeding Daniel Radcliffe. Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton will play his best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, respectively.
Adult characters will be portrayed by more renowned actors. John Lithgow will take on the role of Professor Dumbledore, Nick Frost will play the half-giant Hagrid, Janet McTeer will be Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu will portray Professor Snape. The role of the saga’s main antagonist, Lord Voldemort, remains a closely guarded secret by the producers.
Even before its release, the future of the series is already mapped out. Filming for the season will begin in the fall—prior to the premiere—with hopes of airing by the end of 2027, an ambitious but not entirely implausible timeline. Kit Harington is already confirmed to join the cast in a very iconic role.
Original Saga Stars Keep a Close Watch
The project has received support from the original cast members. Daniel Radcliffe has personally reached out to his successor to offer advice and ensure he isn’t overwhelmed by the expectations that come with this unique role. Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) have made similar gestures.
Following an enchanting and mysterious teaser, this latest trailer reveals more about the plot of Season 1. Raised by his aunt and uncle, orphan Harry Potter learns he is the child of wizards and is admitted to Hogwarts School, where he will discover why he is already famous in the magical world.
Season 1 of the Harry Potter series will debut this December, exclusively on HBO Max.
