In addition to the ongoing HBO series production, another Harry Potter adaptation project is bringing together top British cinema talent.
Two adaptations for the price of one—Harry Potter fans are truly getting their money’s worth. Following the eight movies produced in the 2000s, J.K. Rowling’s novels continue to captivate millions of readers worldwide. To appeal to a brand-new generation of enthusiasts, the HBO Max platform is producing a new series adaptation, with its first season currently being filmed.
Two New Adaptations in the Works!
This adaptation will feature an entirely new cast including Dominic McLaughlin, who has been cast to play the young wizard. John Lithgow will portray Professor Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu will take on the role of Professor Snape, and Janet McTeer has been cast as Professor McGonagall. The actors for the first season have been confirmed, except for the role of Lord Voldemort, whose portrayal might only be revealed when the series airs in 2027.
However, another project is also making headlines, particularly because of its stellar cast. Potter Heads may have already heard that an adaptation will feature Hugh Laurie (House M.D.) as Professor Dumbledore, Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who) in the role of Professor McGonagall, and Riz Ahmed (Rogue One) as Professor Snape.
Voldemort’s Actor Revealed for This Version!
In terms of villains, Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean) has been chosen to play Professor Umbridge and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) will portray Lord Voldemort. Fans won’t have to wait long to see this new version, as the first installment is already available on the Audible platform, which specializes in audio content.
The adaptations of all seven novels will be released one per month until May 12. The audio version of the first book—Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone—has a runtime of 8 hours and 40 minutes, and the subsequent episodes are expected to be even longer. This provides an excellent way for fans to pass the time while waiting for the HBO Max series, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
