The Harry Potter series production is moving quickly. To ensure you don’t miss any updates, we’ve put together a detailed recap in this article!
Release Date: When and Where Will Season 1 of the Harry Potter Series Debut?
It’s the series everyone is eagerly waiting for, yet it’s also currently one of the most controversial. In April 2023, when HBO announced the production of a Harry Potter TV series, the fanbase was divided: is it really necessary to bring the wizard back to the small screen? And what will this reboot look like?
Leaving the big screen behind, our bespectacled hero will find new adventures on television. Warner Bros, which holds the franchise rights, will air the series on its MAX platform, already home to all HBO productions. Given the quality of their past programs, expectations are high for Harry Potter.
The studios are taking their time: the series is slated for a 2026 release in their lineup, with no specific date available yet.
What Will the Harry Potter Series Be About?
The Harry Potter series will be a new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novels, not a spin-off. The first season will adapt the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which goes like this:
On his eleventh birthday, Harry Potter, an orphan raised by an aunt and uncle who despise him, has his life turned upside down. A giant comes to take him to Hogwarts, a school for witchcraft and wizardry! Flying on broomsticks, casting spells, battling trolls: Harry shows great talent. But a mystery shrouds his birth and the dreadful V., a wizard whose name no one dares utter.
What We Know About Season 1 of the Harry Potter Series
Warner Studios is collaborating closely with J.K. Rowling on this new adaptation, aimed at both longtime fans and newcomers. The British author will serve as a co-producer, though she will not be directly involved in the writing. The series has been entrusted to Francesca Gardiner (His Dark Materials) for the scripts and will be co-directed by Mark Mylod (Succession).
Filming is scheduled for this summer at Leavesden Studios near London, where all eight Harry Potter films were shot. The team will film in iconic settings… and also in some new locations! The first season will consist of eight episodes (about 8 hours of content), which will allow for a more thorough exploration of the novel.
