J.K. Rowling’s Role in New Harry Potter Series Finally Revealed!

A “Harry Potter” series is set to premiere in 2026. What role will J.K. Rowling play in the production of this new adaptation of her bestselling novels?

Fans will have to wait until 2026 to experience the first season of the Harry Potter series, which will adapt the first book of the saga, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” This fresh rendition will feature a new cast, and production is currently auditioning young actors and actresses across the United Kingdom to fill the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione!

J.K. Rowling to be credited in the series, however…

While it has been confirmed that this new adaptation will stay truer to the novels than the films did, many wondered what J.K. Rowling’s exact involvement would be. The Scottish author will indeed be credited as an executive producer, due to her role as the creator of the story and characters.

However, her participation in the series will be limited to just this credit, as confirmed by a Warner Bros. Discovery executive, Robert Oberschelp. He revealed that Rowling is not involved in the production of the program but is kept up to date on the project’s progress through her literary agent.

Though it has not been officially stated, it is widely believed that Rowling’s controversial views, which many have deemed transphobic, influenced this decision. Her recent public statements have sparked significant backlash, including criticism from iconic Harry Potter film actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

More Harry Potter saga spin-offs are on the way

The saga continues to expand with more projects in the pipeline, including a Harry Potter cooking show hosted by James and Oliver Phelps (the Weasley twins) soon to air on the Max platform. Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) will serve as judges on this televised competition.

The most anticipated project among fans of the franchise is undoubtedly the sequel to the video game Hogwarts Legacy. It has been confirmed that this new installment will have direct ties to the Harry Potter series!

However, fans should not hold their breath for a fourth installment of Fantastic Beasts. The poor box office performance of the third film, combined with J.K. Rowling’s recent controversial statements, appear to have convinced Warner to put the prequel franchise on hold.

The Harry Potter series is expected to launch exclusively on Max in 2026, also available through the Canal+ subscription.
