Debuted in September 2025 on Disney+, the comedy series Chad Powers is back today for its second season, still led by Glen Powell.
From Fighter Pilot to Quarterback: Glen Powell, Hollywood’s New Face
Russ Holliday is a promising young quarterback whose arrogance and disregard for others, both teammates and rivals, match his immense talent. After a public disgrace ends his career, he struggles with his new ordinary life. Desperate to reclaim his former glory, Russ adopts a new identity as Chad Powers, an alter ego who possesses his athletic skills but whose agreeable nature he must also embrace—a challenging transformation for him.
Known for his roles in action blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, and more recently Running Man, actor Glen Powell has gradually broken away from being typecast due to his resemblance to Tom Cruise, exploring lighter or romantic films, notably in Anything But You with Sydney Sweeney. With over $200 million at the global box office, the success of this film allowed Powell to continue his comedic endeavors with Chad Powers, a series he co-created, stars in, and produces.
A Well-Known Sketch Inspired the Project
Launched in September 2025 on Hulu and Disney+, Chad Powers was warmly received by audiences and critics in North America, thanks to its plot inspired by a well-known U.S. sketch. Originally played by Eli Manning on the sports show Eli’s Place, the character of Chad Powers was later portrayed by Glen Powell.
Understandably, Chad Powers did not resonate as well in France, where the sketch is unfamiliar to the general public, yet the series still garnered positive reviews, as evidenced by its viewer rating of 4/5. Will season 2, starting September 3 on Disney+, manage to attract a broader audience?
Chad Powers Returns for Season 2 on Disney+
After his secret identity is discovered by his coach Ricky (Perry Mattfeld), Russ decides to defy her threats and continue playing. Revealing the truth could ruin their season and the dreams of her father, Coach Hudson (Steve Zahn). Season one ended with suspense, filled with secrets and betrayal, leaving viewers wondering what will happen next as Russ chooses to ignore Ricky’s warnings and steps onto the field to face the Georgia Bulldogs.
Identity is more central than ever in the new season, as Russ/Chad must decide which aspect of himself to embrace in order to define a clear identity. He also needs to address his relationship with Ricky and the rest of the team. Season 2 of Chad Powers, featuring Glen Powell, is now available for streaming on Disney+.
