Rejecting the title of 2024’s Sexiest Man, Glen Powell undergoes a dramatic transformation in “Chad Powers,” a series set for Hulu in 2025.
In November, it was announced that John Krasinski had been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man of 2024. However, the very next day, the Daily Mail revealed that both Glen Powell and Pedro Pascal had been implored to accept the title but declined…
A Covert Role, A Striking Transformation
Perhaps Glen Powell’s refusal is explained by his upcoming series: Chad Powers. In this show, the “Top Gun: Maverick” star plays Russ Holliday, a former quarterback whose missteps destroyed his college career.
Seeking redemption, he disguises himself as Chad Powers, a fabricated character trying to join a struggling football team in the American South.
The teaser showcases the actor in a wig and unrecognizable makeup, boldly announcing, “I’ve got something big coming up.“
This transformation echoes an episode from the show Eli’s Places, where former New York Giants player Eli Manning went undercover to infiltrate a team. Glen Powell, co-creator and executive producer along with Michael Waldron (Loki), aimed to revisit this concept with a comedic twist set against a backdrop of sports redemption.
A Personal Challenge for Glen Powell
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter last May, Powell shared that this role was one of the most complex of his career. He described his character as “the worst kind of guy” disguised as “the nicest guy in the South,” a comedic contrast that required full immersion from the actor.
In a joint statement with Michael Waldron, Powell expressed his love for college football: “Seeing Eli as Chad Powers, we knew that was the key to telling a funny and captivating story about this world.” Their goal? To deliver a comedy in the style of Ted Lasso, produced by Eli and Peyton Manning.
Chad Powers also marks a turning point in Glen Powell’s career. Following the success of the romantic comedy “Anyone But You” and the blockbuster “Twisters,” he is tackling a radically different role that showcases his versatility.
With an intriguing teaser and a promising cast, Chad Powers is shaping up to be a series that is both humorous and poignant, offering a fresh perspective on the inner workings of American football.
Chad Powers does not yet have an official broadcaster in France. However, with Hulu owned by Disney, it is likely that the series will be available on Disney+.
