Robert Eggers, known for his work on “The Witch” and “Nosferatu,” is currently developing a new film focusing on yet another mythological creature. Here’s what we know so far.
Having previously explored witches (The Witch), mermaids (The Lighthouse), vikings (The Northman), and vampires (Nosferatu), director Robert Eggers is now turning his attention to another legendary being for his upcoming movie.
The project, titled “Werwulf,” is set in 13th century Great Britain and will delve into a werewolf narrative, as suggested by its name.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film was originally intended to be shot in black and white, but that artistic decision has since been revised. The dialogue will stay true to the period’s spoken language. Robert Eggers is co-writing the screenplay with Sjón, who also co-wrote The Northman with him.
Hollywood remains fascinated with the werewolf myth, especially as Universal and Blumhouse recently released “Wolf Man” by Leigh Whannel, a remake of the 1941 classic.
With “Werwulf,” Robert Eggers aims to emulate the success of “Nosferatu.” With a budget of 50 million dollars, that film brought in 156 million dollars in revenue.
“Werwulf” is expected to hit theaters by Christmas 2026.
