Iconic Creature Returns to Cinema After 102 Years, Scarier Than Ever!

One of the most anticipated films of late 2024 is Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu,” where the director takes on the silent film classic, promising to strip away the vampire’s glamorous veneer.

There is considerable excitement surrounding Robert Eggers’ new film, Nosferatu. This is partly because his previous work, The Witch, left a significant mark on audiences, and also because it revisits F. W. Murnau’s silent classic, which debuted 122 years ago.

So, what can audiences expect from this remake? Early trailers suggest a deeply dark film, featuring a fully immersed Lily-Rose Depp. As for the vampire, played by Bill Skarsgård, his appearance is shrouded in mystery, only hinted at through glimpses of his silhouette, hands, and eyes.

In an interview with Total Film, Robert Eggers states that the film will make vampires terrifying once again: “We’ve moved past the image of Edward Cullen, where vampires were no longer frightening. So, how do we go in the complete opposite direction? Previously, vampires were scary enough that people would dig up corpses, chop them up, and burn them.”

The End of Glamorous Vampires

It’s clear that since the Twilight saga and Robert Pattinson’s portrayal, the vampire—already glamorized in Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire—no longer symbolized fear. “I think we deserve a corpse that’s scary and smells really bad,” adds Eggers when discussing Nosferatu.

Underneath the makeup, Bill Skarsgård returns to a monstrous role, seven years after playing Pennywise in the new adaptation of It. In an interview with AnOther Magazine, the actor confesses that Nosferatu is the most terrifying role he has ever played. “I’ve never prepared so much, he admits. It was an intense experience.
