While his Christmas movie, Red One, starring Chris Evans, still lacks a French release date, Dwayne Johnson is nonetheless making a return to the big screen: at least his voice is, as he once again voices Maui in the original version of Moana 2, which hit theaters yesterday. He will also appear on television tomorrow, as M6 airs Jungle Cruise, a family adventure where he stars alongside Emily Blunt.

A Long Time Coming

The idea of making a film based on the famous Disney park attraction Jungle Cruise dates back to 2004. The project then fell by the wayside, only to resurface in 2011 with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen set to star. However, that version never materialized… It wasn’t until 2017 that the project finally took off, starring Dwayne Johnson as the lead character.

This isn’t the first time Dwayne Johnson has featured in a film set in tropical regions, as he starred in Welcome to the Jungle and the two Jumanji sequels.

Prestigious Inspirations

The creators of Jungle Cruise drew inspiration from the 1951 John Huston film The African Queen, particularly in the dynamic between Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, reminiscent of the duo formed by Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. Johnson’s character primarily finds inspiration from the most famous adventurer of all: Indiana Jones.
