“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” airs tonight on TMC. On this occasion, let’s discuss the upcoming film in this adventure saga starring Dwayne Johnson.
“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” a follow-up to the beloved 1996 film featuring Robin Williams, is broadcasting tonight on TMC. Led by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan, director Jake Kasdan’s film centers on four high school students whose lives change dramatically when they are sucked into the world of Jumanji.
Suddenly, the teens find themselves catapulted into the depths of the jungle, taking on the physical forms of their game avatars. They soon realize that playing Jumanji isn’t a choice—the game plays you. To return to their real lives, they must overcome the most daunting challenges and complete the ultimate adventure. If they fail, they’ll be stuck in Jumanji forever…
The film was a box office hit, earning $960 million worldwide. Its sequel, titled “Next Level,” released two years later, garnered $801 million globally.
Quickly, a third installment was considered but put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, in October 2024, Sony Pictures finally announced the release date for the third and final film of the new trilogy. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan will return to the jungle on December 9, 2026, seven years after their last game session.
The filming of this adventure movie is set to take place in 2025, as producer Hiram Garcia promised in 2021. The long-time collaborator of The Rock mentioned that filming would start following the release of “Red One.”
“We have started talking about the fourth installment. I can’t tell you much yet, but it’s one of our biggest projects, and one of our favorites too. We are planning big things.”
The Final Film of the Trilogy
Again directed by Jake Kasdan, this movie is expected to be the trilogy’s conclusion, as Dwayne Johnson revealed in an interview with Virgin Radio UK in 2022: “Jake has a very special idea for Jumanji 3, which should be the final film.“
As of now, the plot details remain undisclosed, but as a reminder, at the end of “Next Level,” animals escaped from the game into our world. It’s likely that the upcoming film will take place in our world, echoing the original movie’s theme. It remains to be seen how the teenagers’ avatars will be integrated into the real world…
While main cast members Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and the young stars Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, and Alex Wolff are expected to return, additional casting news has been hinted at by Giant Freakin Robot, though such details are speculative. According to the American site, Dwayne Johnson has reportedly invited Brendan Fraser (whom he replaced in the sequel to “Journey to the Center of the Earth”) to join the film as Spencer’s (Alex Wolff) father.
