Blockbuster Hit Sells 300 Million Globally, Finally Hits TV – Year’s Most Offbeat Film!

Picture a game where you can build anything you desire. This inevitably led to a quirky film adaptation (featuring Jack Black) that took the box office by storm in 2025.

“I mine, and you craft.” Anyone who has played Minecraft will instantly recognize this phrase. Having sold over 300 million copies worldwide, the game has its loyal followers, but the movie with the same name, released in April 2025, has introduced even more people to its expansive world. Starting tonight, it’s available on Canal+!

“Critics may scoff, but audiences click”

Expect the unexpected with the Minecraft movie—a quirky, original, sometimes humorous, often cheesy yet vividly colorful film. Here’s the plot:

Four unlikely heroes – Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn – are suddenly thrown through a mysterious portal to The Surface – a fantastic cubic world that thrives on imagination.

To return home, they must master this world (and protect it from evil creatures like Piglins and Zombies), while embarking on an epic quest with Steve, a crafting expert. This adventure will challenge them to be daring and to enhance their creativity, skills they will need to succeed in the real world.

The film features a diverse cast: Jack Black (in typical Jack Black fashion), Jason Momoa (as a failed rocker), Emma Myers (Wednesday), and Jennifer Coolidge. Despite a massive budget of $150 million, Minecraft faced criticism from fans right from the release of its first trailer. They were disappointed with the decision to go for a live-action format, arguing that animation would have been a more fitting choice.

Great news for fans!

Despite the odds, the film directed by Jared Hess was panned by critics (earning a score of 1.7 out of 5 on AlloCiné) and by viewers (1.9 out of 5).

However, Warner Studios’ strategy paid off: by embracing its quirky, light-hearted, and family-friendly nature, Minecraft attracted a broad audience in cinemas and became one of the year’s biggest box office hits. In France alone, 2.7 million curious moviegoers checked it out, helping it gross over $500 million globally and paving the way for a sequel!

Minecraft 2 is set to hit our screens in July 2027. Meanwhile, you can watch or rewatch the first installment on Canal+ starting tonight at 9:09 PM.
