Christian Clavier Slams New Producers: ‘They Refuse to Lose’!

Currently featured in “Cocorico 2,” Christian Clavier has voiced his thoughts on the role of film producers today.

With the release of “Cocorico 2,” Christian Clavier has expressed his perspective on the state of film production in France.

It’s a formidable paradox. There is a tremendous amount of money circulating in this industry. We’ve never consumed more visual content. Yet, the industry has become concentrated, generally under billionaires with diverse interests who have invested in media perhaps for its prestige, or to pass on to their children, making it very significant. They’ve installed a cadre of executives who are no longer traditional producers risking their own capital, but salaried employees with a clear directive: ‘do not lose money.’ I ask you not to lose,’ he commented in an interview with On Time.

He continued: “You don’t make films without the risk of losing. So, the problem is they don’t want to lose anymore. In film, out of 10 projects, 6 might fail, 2 break even, and 2 become hits. Those are the stats; it’s always been that way.

When a film succeeds, it profits enormously, covering the losses of the others (theaters, enduring media rights for 50 years, TV rights, etc.), but losses are part of the business. They no longer want to face these losses, which is why there are so many films, many of which are of mediocre quality, yet they still demand substantial investment from people.

“Cocorico 2” was released in theaters on April 8, with Christian Clavier co-starring alongside Didier Bourdon.
