Official: “Cocorico 2” Confirmed with Didier Bourdon & Christian Clavier After 2 Million Tickets Sold!

“Cocorico 2” is officially in the works. SND has confirmed that a sequel is coming, bringing together Didier Bourdon and Christian Clavier once again. The original film airs tonight on Canal +.

Cocorico! A follow-up to one of this year’s hit French comedies is on the horizon! The original film, Cocorico, marked the first cinematic pairing of Christian Clavier and Didier Bourdon and attracted nearly 2 million viewers.

The announcement was made during the Film Publishers Congress held this week in Deauville, where AlloCiné was present. Specific details on the filming schedule and release date have yet to be disclosed.

A Highly Anticipated Sequel!

The sequel isn’t exactly a surprise, given the success of the original spurred the creative team to consider a follow-up, as we hinted earlier this year in a February article from Le Parisien.

The film’s strong start comes in a finally favorable context for French comedies. After many had flopped last year, the solid performances of ‘Les Segpa au ski’ and especially ‘Chasse gardée’ over the Christmas period have lifted spirits. It has also renewed the audience’s desire to enjoy a good laugh in the theaters,” Le Parisien explained in its February 14, 2024 issue.

“When in Doubt, Go for an Open Ending”

Indeed, the final scene of Cocorico suggests that anything is possible… The ending is completely open, even ending on a sort of cliffhanger, as one might say for a TV series.

When I wrote the second draft of the script, Christian Clavier gave me this advice: when in doubt, go for an open ending. He’s a pro!“, director and screenwriter Julien Hervé told Le Parisien. “It’s not up to me to decide, it’s up to the audience, but we’ve left that possibility open.

“Iconic”, “a masterpiece”: rated 4.1 out of 5, it’s the top-rated comedy featuring Christian Clavier

It’s worth noting that, according to Le Parisien, the first part of the film could also be adapted into a stage play, taking the form of a closed-door drama. This segment recalls the plot of Le Prénom, with a suspenseful undertone and plenty of humor.

What is Cocorico?

Similar to a comedy like Qu’est-ce qu’on a fait au Bon Dieu? (which spawned two sequels), this film fully leverages social contrasts and differing backgrounds. It follows Alice (Chloé Coulloud) and François (Julien Pestel), who are about to get married and decide to bring their families together.

For the occasion, they have a unique gift for their parents: DNA tests so everyone can discover the origins of their ancestors. But the surprise turns into a fiasco when the Bouvier-Sauvage, a grand aristocratic family, and the Martins, who are much more modest, receive some rather… unexpected results!

Cocorico airs tonight on Canal+.
