Didier Bourdon and Christian Clavier Return in ‘Cocorico 2’ — Release Date Revealed!

The follow-up to one of the most successful French comedies of 2024 is confirmed! “Cocorico,” featuring the first-ever cinematic pairing of Christian Clavier and Didier Bourdon, captivated nearly 2 million viewers.

As reported by Le Film Français, “Cocorico 2” is set to premiere on April 8, 2026.

An Anticipated Sequel!

This second installment is hardly a surprise, given the original’s success sparked interest in a sequel, as previously mentioned in an article by Le Parisien a year ago.

“The film’s strong start comes at a time when French comedies are finally seeing some success. While many flopped last year, the encouraging box office results during the Christmas season from ‘Les Segpa au ski’ and especially ‘Chasse gardée’ have lifted spirits. It also restored the audience’s habit of enjoying a laugh in the theaters,” explained Le Parisien on February 14, 2024.

Indeed, the final scene of “Cocorico” suggests that anything could happen… The ending is completely open, even ending on a sort of cliffhanger, as one might say for a TV series.

“When I wrote the second version of the script, Christian Clavier advised me: in doubt, go for an open ending. He’s a pro!“, director and screenwriter Julien Hervé told Le Parisien. “It’s not up to me to decide, it’s up to the audience, but we’ve left ourselves that possibility.“

It’s worth noting that, according to Le Parisien, the first part of the movie might also be adapted into a theater production as a closed-door drama. This segment recalls the plot of “Le Prénom,” with its lingering suspense and abundant humor.

Details about the plot of the sequel have not been revealed. The casting has not been specified either, but it is highly likely that the main characters will return.

What is “Cocorico”?

Similar to a comedy like “What Did We Do to the Good Lord?” (which had two sequels), this film fully plays on the contrasts and opposing social backgrounds. It follows Alice (Chloé Coulloud) and François (Julien Pestel), who are about to get married and decide to bring their families together.

For the occasion, they have prepared an original gift for their parents: DNA tests so everyone can discover their ancestors’ origins. However, the surprise turns into a debacle when the Bouvier-Sauvage, a prominent aristocratic family, and the Martins, who are much more modest, uncover the results, which are quite unexpected!
