Eric Bana: From Hulk to Troy, Where Is He Now? Discover His Journey!

Once portraying Hulk, Hector, Nero, and Henry Tudor, what’s the latest on Australian actor Eric Bana?

A prominent figure in the 2000s and 2010s, what has happened to Eric Bana, famous for his roles in Hulk, Troy, and Black Hawk Down? Recently, the Australian actor has spent several years away from Hollywood sets and made a strong comeback last year on television.

When Did He Start to Fade from the Spotlight?

Following the commercial failures of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Forgiven (2017), Eric Bana became less visible in the film industry. After filming the miniseries Dirty John with Connie Britton (2018-2019), he worked three times with Australian director Robert Connolly in The Dry (2020), then Blueback (2022) and The Dry 2 (2024).

In 2025, Bana reclaimed popular success with the Netflix series Wild Nature, in which he plays the lead role of a National Park Service special agent who, during an investigation, confronts the ghosts of his past. The following year, he starred in the feature film Apex (also produced by Netflix), portraying the husband of a climbing enthusiast played by Charlize Theron.

He Started as a Comedian!

With a natural talent for comedy and impersonations, Eric Bana was hired for the Australian comedy show Full Frontal, where he wrote most of his sketches over four years, gaining popularity. In 1997, he appeared in his first feature film, The Castle by Rob Sitch, and hosted his own sketch show simply titled Eric.

In 2000, Bana starred in the soap opera Something in the Air and landed his first leading role in Chopper by Andrew Dominik. The following year, he broke into Hollywood with his role as the brave Sergeant Hoot in Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down.

His career soared, and he was soon seen in Finding Nemo and played Bruce Banner in Ang Lee’s Hulk (2003). He continued with a role as Hector in Troy opposite Brad Pitt, and Steven Spielberg cast him as the lead in Munich, inspired by the hostage crisis at the 1972 Olympics.

He was then everywhere: in historical films (The Other Boleyn Girl), science fiction (Star Trek), dramatic comedy (Funny People), and fantasy drama adapted from literary successes (The Time Traveler’s Wife), and worked with directors like Craig Gillespie (The Finest Hours), Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us from Evil), and Peter Berg (Lone Survivor). But as we’ve seen, the year 2017 brought setbacks to his career.
