First Look: Philippe Lacheau’s Marsupilami Rocks Pop Culture in New Trailer!

The trailer for Philippe Lacheau’s new comedy “Marsupilami” has just been released. The adorable creature created by André Franquin in 1952 is featured, along with numerous pop culture references wrapped in humor!

Houba houba! The trailer for Philippe Lacheau’s new film dedicated to Marsupilami is here! The first glimpses are filled with nods from Gremlins to E.T…. Did you catch them?

This new adaptation of André Franquin’s work comes 11 years after Alain Chabat’s version, which drew 5.3 million viewers. The film is directed by Philippe Lacheau and co-written by Lacheau, Pierre Dudan, Julien Arruti, and Pierre Lacheau.

The Fifi gang is back, and they’ve made a new friend… The plot of this new installment goes like this: To save his job, David agrees to a sketchy plan: to bring a mysterious package from South America. He finds himself on a cruise with his ex Tess, his son Leo, and his colleague Stéphane, who is as dim-witted as he is clumsy, and whom David uses to transport the package in his stead. Chaos ensues when Stéphane accidentally opens it: an adorable baby Marsupilami appears and the journey turns to mayhem!

Gérard Jugnot and Didier Bourdon as Guest Stars

In terms of casting, “Fifi” is joined by his crew: Tarek Boudali, Julien Arruti, Elodie Fontan, and Reem Kherici, as well as Jamel Debbouze, who played the guide Pablito Camaron in Alain Chabat’s 2012 film, Alban Ivanov, young Corentin Guillot, and Jean Reno. And as one can see at the very end of the trailer, in the credits, Gérard Jugnot and Didier Bourdon will be part of the cast.

During the promotion of Tarek Boudali’s “3 jours max”, we asked Philippe Lacheau about his Marsupilami. He revealed to us that the creature, which possesses superhuman strength, measures about 1 meter in height and has a prehensile tail that can extend up to 8 meters, will not be depicted using CGI in his film.

“It will not be an actor, but if all goes well, there won’t be too much CGI either”, the filmmaker shared. The animal is expected to be an animatronic.

Marsupilami is set to hit our screens on February 4, 2026, three years after “Alibi.com 2”, which attracted 4.2 million viewers to theaters. It will be in the Official Selection at the Alpe d’Huez Festival.
