In an interview with the Belgian magazine Ciné-Télé-Revue, Philippe Lacheau revealed that he was approached to play a well-known French TV personality but turned down the role because “the change was too drastic”…
Philippe Lacheau first caught the public’s eye in 2005 when he joined the cast of “Le Grand Journal” on Canal+ with his comedy group, La Bande à Fifi. Over the years, Lacheau has become a staple in the comedy scene. His directorial debut, “Babysitting”, which he also wrote and scripted, drew an impressive 2.3 million viewers to theaters in 2014.
Following the success of “Babysitting”, he quickly released a sequel and went on to create other hits like “Nicky Larson and the Cupid’s Perfume” and “Alibi.com” along with its sequel, establishing his mark in a genre that has proven successful at the box office.
“The change was too drastic”
However, Lacheau recently passed up what could have been his first dramatic role: portraying the famous and influential French TV host and producer Jean-Luc Delarue in a biopic dedicated to him.
Lacheau shared his thoughts on this decision with Ciné-Télé-Revue, saying, “The script was great, but the times are so complex that I’d rather keep making people laugh than add my bit of cynicism. It’s not the right time, though that might change. It was a role that involved very dark, decadent aspects. The change was too drastic.”
Jean-Luc Delarue was a prominent figure in French television, known for his work as a host and producer. He started his career at Canal+ and became widely recognized for shows like Ça se discute and Toute une histoire. Delarue’s reputation suffered due to drug-related scandals, leading to his professional decline. He passed away in 2012 at the age of 48 from stomach cancer.
In the meantime, Lacheau continues to focus on bringing joy and entertainment to his audience. His next project, a new adaptation of the beloved comic strip character Marsupilami, is set to release in February 2026.
