Actor Lukas Haas recently shared his nerve-wracking experience of having to slap Leonardo DiCaprio during a scene in Christopher Nolan’s “Inception.”
It’s not every day that you get to act opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, let alone slap the Hollywood star multiple times for a film scene! This unique experience was lived by actor Lukas Haas fifteen years ago on the set of Christopher Nolan’s “Inception.”
In “Inception,” Lukas Haas played the role of Nash, an architect who initially works with Dom Cobb (DiCaprio) but soon betrays him. In one of the movie’s iconic scenes, which has sparked numerous theories, he finds himself slapping DiCaprio repeatedly to wake him from a dream. It was a situation that was as humorous as it was stressful for Lukas Haas, as he recently mentioned in an interview with the website Coming Soon.
“It was a funny moment. But to be honest, I was a bit nervous about slapping him,” said the 48-year-old actor. “I’m not a very physical person, not the kind of guy who gets into fights. Really not. So, Leonardo kept saying, ‘Come on! You can hit me harder, man. You can definitely hit me harder than that.’ I had to psych myself up to really slap him and keep slapping.”
With Leonardo DiCaprio himself asking for more intensity in the slaps, the two long-time friends did not let the repeated slapping affect their relationship. They reunited five years later in the cast of “The Revenant,” directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
Lukas Haas, who stars in 2023 alongside Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie in “Babylon,” was recently seen in the action movie “Cash Out,” which was released directly to VOD and features John Travolta. As for Leonardo DiCaprio, he will soon appear opposite Dwayne Johnson in a Martin Scorsese-directed thriller set in the world of the Hawaiian mafia.
