Notoriously secretive about the privacy of his scripts, the director of “Inception” and “Interstellar” has developed a highly effective technique to prevent leaks.
Famed for his meticulous and precise approach to writing and directing, Christopher Nolan is just as rigorous when it comes to safeguarding his screenplays. Known to be filled with surprises and twists, the scripts for The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar, and Tenet must remain under wraps until the movies hit theaters.
To ensure this, the British filmmaker has implemented a rather unique method, which might seem a bit over-the-top at first glance but has proven effective. If you ever find yourself cast in a Nolan film, be prepared to receive a script printed with black ink… on red paper!
Why Black Ink on Red Paper?
As learned from the account X Interesting As Fuck, and specifically in a short video featuring Jessica Chastain presenting her own copy of the Interstellar script, all copies of this “top secret” document were printed on red sheets: a process that apparently makes photocopying much more difficult.
At a time when script leaks are common in big-budget films, such precautions can help deter those who might intend to reveal the ending of a Nolan movie, or at least make their task much harder.
