Grey’s Anatomy Pays Tearful Tribute to Eric Dane, One Week After His Passing

On Thursday, February 26, during the airing of a new episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” on American TV, a tribute video honoring Eric Dane was featured to pay final respects to him.

Just over a week ago, on February 19, the news broke of Eric Dane’s passing at the age of 53, several months after he disclosed his diagnosis with ALS.

The American actor was widely recognized for his portrayal of the iconic Dr. Mark Sloan on the TV series Grey’s Anatomy, a role he played from 2006 to 2012.

A Touching Video Tribute to Eric Dane

Since the announcement of his death, many of his co-stars have paid tribute to him on social media. ABC, the American network, also chose to honor Eric Dane during the broadcast of the latest Grey’s Anatomy episode on Thursday, February 26.

The medical drama featured a montage of Dr. Mark Sloan’s finest moments set to “Chasing Cars,” one of the most emblematic songs from Grey’s Anatomy, just before the closing credits.

Highlighted moments included the hotel room scene that ended the marriage of Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Addison (Kate Walsh), an awkward elevator ride with Derek and his many exes, as well as his interactions with Callie (Sara Ramirez), the birth of their baby, and the wedding of Arizona and Callie where he walked her down the aisle.

Eric Dane joined Grey’s Anatomy in 2006 during its second season, embodying Mark Sloan, a renowned plastic surgeon who arrived in Seattle hoping to reconcile with Derek Shepherd.

He remained on the medical series until the second episode of season 9, in which Mark Sloan died from injuries sustained in a plane crash at the end of season 8, which also claimed the life of Lexie (Chyler Leigh), his great love.

The tribute video concluded with Eric Dane’s return during season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy. His character appeared in a dream to Meredith while she was in a coma. Along with Lexie, they encouraged the doctor to choose to keep living.

Don’t waste a single minute,” Mark says in the montage before the image fades to black and white and the words appear: “In Memory of Eric Dane”. A poignant tribute to an actor who has left an indelible mark on the history of Grey’s Anatomy.
