Henry Cavill: Real-Life Hero on Set of True Story-Inspired Film!

Onscreen and off, Henry Cavill has played the hero, this time saving a co-star during the filming of one of his latest movies. Read on to uncover this extraordinary tale.

Once a superhero, always a superhero: Henry Cavill has lived up to this adage. The event occurred on the set of his 2024 action film, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” directed by Guy Ritchie. While filming a scene on a boat, the former Superman actor quickly sprang into action to prevent his co-star, Alex Pettyfer (known for “Magic Mike” and “I Am Number Four”), from drowning. Pettyfer revealed the incident in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“He saved me from falling off a boat. I nearly drowned. So, I can officially say that I was saved by Henry, and I am very grateful,” Pettyfer stated. He continued, directly addressing his colleague, “It was an incredible honor to be in this film with you. It’s a learning curve to see how a lead actor treats everyone in the cast and crew. I received an email from this man two weeks before shooting started, saying, ‘I’m excited to work with you.’

“The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” is an action-comedy based on the true story of the first special forces unit created during World War II by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials, including writer Ian Fleming. Inspired by Damien Lewis’s book “Churchill’s Secret Warriors,” the film portrays this top-secret combat unit made up of a diverse group of rogues and sharpshooters who embark on a daring mission against the Nazis using highly unconventional and decidedly “ungentlemanly” combat techniques. Their bold approach ultimately altered the course of the war and laid the groundwork for the British SAS and modern covert warfare.

In addition to Henry Cavill and Alex Pettyfer, the film’s cast includes Eiza González (“Baby Driver”), Alan Ritchson (“Reacher”), Henry Golding (“Crazy Rich Asians”), Hero Fiennes Tiffin (the “After” series), and Cary Elwes (“The Princess Bride”).

Even though he had the hefty responsibility of rescuing a fellow actor, Henry Cavill expressed his enjoyment of the filming experience: “I think it was a delightful experience, and it’s thanks to these guys, to Guy [Ritchie], and to our team. It creates an environment where you can have fun and it’s easy to enjoy your day… I think that’s why we can all shine in an environment like this.”

“The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
