Following his films like The Chorus, Paris 36, War of the Buttons, and The Time of Secrets, French director Christophe Barratier is back with a new historical film: The Children of the Resistance.
Based on the popular comic book series that started in 2015 by Vincent Dugomier and Benoît Ers, which has sold over 2.5 million copies in France, the film features young actors Lucas Hector, Nina Filbrandt, Octave Gerbi, and seasoned actors Artus, Gérard Jugnot, Pierre Deladonchamps, Leslie Medina, Julien Pestel, Julien Arruti, and Vanessa Guide.
This movie marks the fifth collaboration between the filmmaker and his long-time associate Gérard Jugnot, following The Chorus (2003), Paris 36 (2008), War of the Buttons (2011), and Just Like Magic (2023).
When Children Lead the Way
Set during the German occupation in World War II, The Children of the Resistance tells the tale of François, Eusèbe, and Lisa, three brave children who embark on a secret mission: to resist the Nazis in the heart of France. Their dangerous exploits include sabotage, hiding messages, and daring escapes, all conducted right under the enemy’s nose. With courage and friendship as their only weapons, these young heroes set an example for the adults around them.
The first glimpses of this highly anticipated film, set to hit theaters on February 11, 2026, have recently been revealed. Mirroring the comic book series, which now includes nine volumes, the film offers a child’s perspective of World War II and is suitable for audiences aged eight and older.
Artus: From Resistance Fighter to Cyrano
Four months after this film, Artus will star as Cyrano de Bergerac in Michel Leclerc’s new film, The Whims of the Child King, which presents an original story set at the court of Louis XIV, reimagining Edmond Rostand’s classic. Artus will star alongside Franck Dubosc (as D’Artagnan), Julia Piaton (as Madeleine Béjart), and Nemo Schiffman (as Molière).
