Luther Fans Rejoice! Series Creator Idris Elba Teases Possible Sequel Details

Following an unexpected film release on Netflix in 2023, “Luther” enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the potential comeback of their hero, portrayed by Idris Elba. It appears that their hopes might be on the right track!

Originally aired on the BBC from 2010 to 2019, the series “Luther” explores the troubled life of a London detective, played by Idris Elba. With its endearing characters, meticulous atmosphere, and realistic approach to crime-solving, the show built a strong following among mystery fans before gaining international fame on Netflix.

After being canceled post its fifth season, the character made a comeback in the 2023 film “Luther: The Fallen Sun,” thanks to Netflix’s support. This revival has left fans speculating about more adventures for the London detective on the platform…

Is a Return on the Horizon?

In a recent interview with Radio Times, Neil Cross, the creator of the series, along with Idris Elba and the team, expressed a collective desire to bring the character back. But when? While Cross cleverly dodged the timing question, his implications brought joy to the series’ fans:

“There’s a very good chance [he’ll return]. Is that the most specific hint I can give without Netflix sending a hitman after me? Yes, there’s a very good chance [he’ll return].”

A Series or a Film?

It’s hard to state anything officially without the platform’s approval, but this joke seems quite telling! While no dates have been (understandably) announced, the creative team already knows how they envision this comeback:

“[It will be a film], because that’s where [Luther] lives now.” Remember, we left your hero being recruited by MI5 at the end of “The Fallen Sun,” so it’s likely that the plot will move in that direction. We hope you’re as excited as we are!
