“Belphégor” on M6
This contemporary take on Arthur Bernède’s novel “Belphégor” follows Hafsa, a gifted art restorer who has recently joined the Louvre. Amidst turmoil, she encounters an ancient Mesopotamian mask depicting the storm god Baal Phegor, commonly known as Belphégor.
As she becomes entangled in a series of unexplained disappearances with no recollection of her involvement, a race against time unfolds at the heart of the world’s largest museum. Hafsa must battle both her pursuers and her own demons to uncover the truth and decipher the deep connection she shares with Belphégor.
Described as a “psychological thriller with supernatural elements,” the series promises to transport viewers “to the heart of Paris and the Louvre Museum.”
A Stellar Cast
To portray our heroine, actress Shirine Boutella (known for “Lupin,” “Miskina, the Poor”) has been cast. She will star alongside Vincent Elbaz, Aure Atika, Tiphaine Daviot, Nicolas Briançon, and Kad Merad.
M6 also disclosed that it is co-producing “Belphégor” in partnership with the streaming platform Max. The completed project will initially be available on this platform before its television broadcast on the network.
In the original 1927 story, a malevolent spirit named Belphégor haunts the Louvre in Paris, spreading terror among its inhabitants. A journalist and a detective work together to unravel the mystery of these bizarre occurrences, gradually uncovering a plot linked to an ancient curse…
Furthermore, this new adaptation of “Belphégor” isn’t the only one being developed. Towards the end of 2022, it was announced that Josée Dayan (known for “Captain Marleau”) was also working on her version of the myth, starring Isabelle Adjani and John Malkovich.
