Attention “After” series enthusiasts! A new movie in the same spirit has just landed on Prime Video starring Chase Stokes from “Outer Banks”. Here’s what you need to know about “Marked Men: Rule + Shaw”.
If you have a penchant for romantic and steamy young adult franchises like After, À contre-sens, Closer, or Maxton Hall, Prime Video has just released a new film in this genre that you’re likely to enjoy.
The platform is once again betting on adapting a successful book series. This time, it’s the first book from the Marked Men series by Jay Crownover, which includes six novels.
The adaptation of this first novel is directed by Nick Cassavetes, known for his work on films like “The Notebook”, “Alpha Dog”, “My Sister’s Keeper”, and “The Other Woman”. The screenplay is crafted by Sharon Soboil, who penned the scripts for “After: Chapter 3” and “After: Chapter 4”.
And it is this level of narrative that you can expect in “Marked Men: Rule + Shaw”, now available on Prime Video.
A New Movie for Fans of the “After” Series
Similar to the “After” series, the film “Marked Men: Rule + Shaw” tells the love story between Shaw, a composed, wise young woman, and Rule, a somewhat rebellious, tattooed, and troubled young man.
This cliché-ridden, formulaic romance is brought to life by two charismatic TV stars: Chase Stokes, known for his role as John B in “Outer Banks”, and Sydney Taylor, seen in “Just Add Magic: Mystery City” and “American Housewife”.
The plot of “Marked Men: Rule + Shaw” is straightforward, depicting Rule, who is a serial dater, and Shaw, who is secretly in love with him, as very close friends.
Rule is very protective of Shaw, to whom he is not indifferent. One evening, they cross the line and spend the night together. This unexpected intimate night forces them to confront their true feelings and navigate the complexities of their differing family backgrounds and expectations.
The rest of the cast of “Marked Men: Rule + Shaw” includes familiar faces from TV and films of this genre, such as Alexander Ludwig (“Vikings”), Ella Balinska (“Charlie’s Angels”), Evan Mock (“Gossip Girl” reboot), Natalie Alyn Lind (“Big Sky”, “Tell Me a Story”), and Matthew Noszka (“Perfect Addiction”).
Fans of nostalgic TV might also recognize Paul Johansson, who played the infamous Dan Scott in “One Tree Hill”, in this unpretentious romance that doesn’t reinvent the genre but fits well within a very prolific and popular category. Viewers are likely to enjoy it, especially since it’s perfect for an evening watch at just 1.5 hours long.
“Marked Men” is now available on Prime Video.
