“Mixing It Up,” the latest comedy from Michel Leclerc (“The Names of Love”), has just released its trailer. Featuring an impressive cast including Marguerite from Star Academy, the film draws inspiration from the #MeToo movement and is set to premiere on April 16.
Fifteen years after “The Names of Love,” director and screenwriter Michel Leclerc returns with a comedy that promises to be provocative: “Mixing It Up.” Like his surprise hit with Sara Forestier, this new movie combines sharp wit with timely topics. Check out the trailer!
Feminism and the Me Too movement play central roles in this film, which we had the opportunity to preview at the Alpe d’Huez Comedy Festival last January.
As the title suggests, “Mixing It Up” blends various genres. There’s slapstick, situational comedy in the style of Francis Veber (“The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe” served as inspiration), crime comedy, and finally, a more societal theme through the issues it addresses.
Here is the synopsis as it was shared:
Here is the official pitch of the movie: “Simone (Léa Drucker), a conservative police officer, goes undercover in a feminist group called ‘The Bold Ones.’ She investigates the activists, suspecting them of complicity in the murder of an abusive husband. As she interacts with them, Simone gradually embraces feminist ideas. However, her cover is slim, and ‘The Bold Ones,’ suspecting a mole, start to distrust her.
To divert attention and escape this predicament, Simone randomly accuses a man of sexually assaulting her. However, Paul (Benjamin Lavernhe), the man she accuses, is a failed actor living in his wife’s (Julia Piaton) shadow and is the most gentle and harmless of men. Horrified by her actions, Simone tries to make amends, but it’s too late: the accusation goes public, and Paul becomes a target of the collective.“
Highlighted at the Alpe d’Huez festival, here are the comedies you won’t want to miss in 2025!
How did the idea for this film originate?
What sparked this project? Michel Leclerc, whom we met at the Alpe d’Huez Festival, shares that his own inquiries led him to this film idea.
“Whenever there’s a topic that challenges my thinking, it inspires me. In this case, the significant Me Too movement. As a man, this movement also affects me. I wanted to address it from a perspective like mine and try to process these issues. To understand how I respond to these questions, to know what kind of man I am.
The fear of discussing feminism as a man like me, I wanted to confront it
That’s why I wanted to talk about it. Knowing that it’s not expected of me, and knowing that there might be repercussions. But I believe one must always face their fears. So, the fear of discussing feminism as a man like me, I wanted to confront it.”
A Diverse and Surprising Cast
The movie features Léa Drucker and Benjamin Lavernhe in leading roles, along with Judith Chemla, Julia Piaton, and Melha Bedia.
Two figures from the music industry also make their debut in a feature film: Vincent Delerm appears playing piano and singing in a key scene. Moreover, in a few scenes, viewers can spot a familiar face from Star Academy, class of 2024-2025: Marguerite Dedeyan.
“Mixing It Up” by Michel Leclerc will hit theaters on April 16, 2025.
