Pamela Anderson’s Powerful Speech on Kindness as Strength Wins Big at Deauville 2025!

At the opening ceremony of the 51st Deauville American Film Festival, Pamela Anderson delivered a powerful, memorable, and heartfelt speech as she was honored with a Deauville Talent Award.

Over the past year, following her role in The Last Showgirl, perceptions of Pamela Anderson within the industry have shifted. This change has only been solidified in recent months with her outstanding performance in Is There a Cop to Save the World?, the exciting new projects piling up at her doorstep (collaborating with filmmakers like Karim Aïnouz, Kornél Mundruczó, Sally Potter, and Michael Cera), and the tribute paid to her at the opening of the 51st Deauville American Film Festival.

Just minutes before the premiere of the hilarious Free Trade, hitting theaters on Wednesday, September 10, the actress, once iconic for Baywatch and often maligned by tabloids and her ex-husband Tommy Lee, took the stage to accept a Deauville Talent Award recognizing both her career and her personal advocacy. Those still doubting the appropriateness of the award were likely convinced by Anderson’s compelling speech.

“What I love about this town is that it hasn’t lost any of its elegant charm: the older it gets, the more beautiful and special it becomes,” she began, after a long standing ovation and a message of congratulations from… Isabelle Huppert. “I am honored to stand before you tonight to receive this Talent Award at this significant, glamorous, and historic film festival in Deauville. I am thrilled to think about all the actors and actresses I admire who have stood here before me.”

“We Don’t Play Silly Games, I Am Genuine”

“Being among them and being a part of this film community I so dearly love is very generous and unforgettable. I’ve always kept secrets: my secret love of cinema, classic literature, and music. This love and this need to create and portray characters. I’ve been doing it all my life, as a survival mechanism if not in front of a camera. It was like a layer of protection, but I also fed the monster.”

“I realize how fortunate I am to be a part of pop culture, and I’m grateful because it’s a blessing… but maybe also a curse. Because it undermines this cultivated mystique that’s invaluable for a film actress. It was important for me, at that moment, to shift perceptions, to be free to paint on a blank canvas, again and again for every new endeavor. I don’t take things lightly. I will never engage in publicity stunts, as that would be akin to signing my own death warrant.”

“I am driven by authenticity. I am superstitious about love, and I’m not here to share even a piece of my romantic life which, as you can see, is built and demolished over days, weeks, and months, within a media culture quick to judge and ruin it. Love, whatever form it takes or however long it lasts, is innocent. But it takes time and love belongs to lovers. I know I will fall in love again and again on screen, because that’s my job. And if we do it right, you will feel it like some kind of projection, and that will be the highest compliment.”

“Think positive. We don’t play silly games, I am genuine. Do not mistake kindness for weakness, or my boldness for bitterness. I’m not on this journey for the money or fame, but to see what I’m made of. To work hard and sincerely, to leave behind an honest legacy my family can be proud of. I am not a statistic. I had to learn things the hard way, but I am a curious seeker, an artist. I know what it feels like to be denigrated, underestimated, and even publicly humiliated. But also, despite everything, to be loved and supported. And that never leaves me.”

“I appreciate you, magically, gracefully, and with dignity. I’ve learned to turn my challenges into fertilizer. I’ve built myself a new garden and I feel the harvest time has come. I was a naive young girl who arrived in Los Angeles on her very first airplane flight, with no plan. You may have called what some deemed mistakes, but they were not. They were just research and, as an adult, I intend to use them, as these last years have proven. And it comes at a divine time. I am honored to be embraced by the independent film community, incredible and brave, where I have recently made films with visionary artists like Gia Coppola, Akiva Schaffer, Karim Aïnouz, and Kornél Mundruczó.”

“I must thank all these directors and filmmakers who believed in me, with beautiful, tender stories in which I could play different characters, very human and imperfect but not superficial, who are all optimistic in their own way. I’m only interested in stories of real beauty, raw and imperfect love, and finding joy in overcoming obstacles with humor and music. There’s enough darkness in the world. A beautiful fragility radiates, and vulnerability becomes credibility. Growing by navigating, suffering, failing should be celebrated. I can’t help but think back to a few clumsy missteps I’ve made in the past.”

“I remember being in the sights of Werner Herzog! He had a film for me, and I can’t recall what happened, but the project fell through as things can happen during what I call ‘my troubled years.’ Dear Werner, know that I am ready to dive in with you, and with any one of you. It would be an honor and a privilege.” Not to overtly mention the rumors surrounding a possible affair with Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson thus confirmed her continued relevance in the future. And we’ll be there to see it.
