Released in 1987, Dirty Dancing is still cherished today and tells the story of Baby (Jennifer Grey) who, during the 1960s, endures a dull family vacation until she finds out that the resort’s staff members are part of a dance group. For the innocent young woman, it marks the beginning of her liberation through the ultra-sensual moves of “dirty dancing” and her encounter with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze).
Both romantic and tantalizingly sexy, Dirty Dancing captivated millions of viewers worldwide. The film’s timeless appeal undoubtedly owes much to its iconic duo, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey—with Grey achieving international fame through her role as Baby. Remarkably, Swayze was known to have disliked one of the film’s legendary lines.
“From the inception to the success of the film and its soundtrack, I am incredibly proud of all my producers and the immensely talented artists who contributed to this wonderful success,” said producer Jimmy Ienner in 2012, during the celebration of Dirty Dancing’s 25th anniversary.
