Macaulay Culkin, famed for his role in “Home Alone,” made a notable appearance in the third episode of “Fallout” Season 2 on Prime Video.
As a child star of the 1990s, Macaulay Culkin captured hearts with his iconic role in the smash hit “Home Alone,” where he played young Kevin McCallister, accidentally left by his parents to fend off bumbling burglars. This film was a massive success and kickstarted the young actor’s career, leading to a string of family comedies including “Getting Even with Dad,” “The Pagemaster,” and the sequel “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
Culkin became a golden goose for his family, which led to numerous legal battles. Facing immense pressure, Culkin chose to step away from his career in 1994. He would only reappear sporadically on screen from the 2000s onward, and never in leading roles. So, fans were thrilled and surprised to see him appear as a post-apocalyptic Roman legionnaire in an episode of the series “Fallout”!
A Universe Where Anything Goes
Based on the beloved video game of the same name, the sci-fi series “Fallout” has accustomed us to expect the unexpected. Yet, hiring an actor like Macaulay Culkin to play a man driven mad by the apocalypse, believing himself to be a Roman legionnaire, actually makes perfect sense. This is exactly the kind of unexpected casting that enriches the franchise, as the actor himself explained to IGN:
“[I love Fallout because] there’s nothing that doesn’t fit with the franchise. […] You can encounter zombies, monsters, and all sorts of creatures. There are also aliens. Anything you can imagine, you can include in the game. […] There’s no fixed form. You can basically fit any shape into this slot.” So, it’s not at all strange to see ghouls chasing after Macaulay Culkin dressed as a legionnaire!
It’s these elements, as improbable as they may be, that contribute to the popularity of Fallout: a freedom of expression that allows for anything, without ever becoming absurd. While this combination might seem challenging on paper, the first episodes of Season 2 have already revealed its secret: just take laughter seriously.
Fallout is available on Prime Video.
