Currently headlining the new “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” Tom Holland has made a surprising announcement about one of his major roles, catching his fans off-guard!
This summer, it’s impossible to ignore Tom Holland’s phenomenon. The young actor, dating Zendaya, stars in two blockbusters making a splash at the global box office: Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” where he plays Telemachus, and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” (achieving the ninth-biggest opening of all time in France) where he reprises his role as Peter Parker. Among these significant roles, there’s one he’s not particularly proud of!
Tom Holland Expresses Regret Over His Performance in This Blockbuster
Four years ago, while already a Hollywood star, Tom Holland joined the cast of a major American production: Ruben Fleischer’s “Uncharted”—known for the hit “Zombieland.” Based on the Naughty Dog video game series, the film follows treasure hunter Nathan Drake (played by Holland), exploring lost cities with his loyal partner, Sully, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg. This role has been a milestone in his career, but one that Holland now regrets.
In an interview with GQ around the release of “Uncharted,” Holland admitted to focusing too much on his appearance: “I think, for certain aspects of my performance in Uncharted, I fell into the trap of thinking, ‘I want to look good. I want this to be my moment.’“
As a result, by trying too hard to be something he’s not, Holland felt lost: “I was supposed to play a very tough and stoic guy, basically be Mark Wahlberg. My character was meant to be a real action hero!“, he confessed apprehensively: “Honestly, I haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t know if I pulled it off.“
The Actor Gained an “Important Lesson”
Although he’s critical of his acting, Tom Holland doesn’t regret participating in the film. The experience in “Uncharted” has helped him improve as an actor, even at the young age of 30, as he explained to American media: “It was an important lesson (…) It was a mistake, and I probably won’t make it again.“
Today, Tom Holland continues to take on roles in major productions while keeping his feet on the ground. In 2030, he will reprise his role as Nathan Drake in the sequel to the blockbuster “Uncharted,” once again alongside Mark Wahlberg.
