If you’ve binged all five episodes of “Asterix and Obelix: The Battle of the Chiefs”, you might have missed this bonus episode that rewards the most eagle-eyed fans! Here’s everything you need to know.
At long last, after years of anticipation, Netflix has released “Asterix and Obelix: The Battle of the Chiefs”, based on the famous comic book and directed by Alain Chabat and his team. The outcome is spectacular: it’s fun, touching, and supremely entertaining for both kids and adults.
Throughout the five episodes, our fearless Gauls once again outwit the Romans and Caesar, who thought he could finally conquer Gaul. Despite a dazed Panoramix after taking a menhir to the head, and a rift between Obelix and Asterix, our beloved characters manage to triumph over their foes once more, culminating in a celebratory final banquet.
But trust Alain Chabat to pamper Netflix subscribers with one last treat in the form of a post-credits scene. Actually, not just a scene but a three-minute 2D mini-episode! To find it, just keep watching the credits until two hungry boars pop up on the screen…
“A Little Extra Treat” for Asterix Fans
In an interview, the series’ screenwriter shared the backstory of this bonus episode, written and directed by Piano (Pierre-Alain Bloch), which is sure to delight viewers:
“First off, congratulations if you stayed through the entire credits. Then you stumbled upon a little something. Originally, we were supposed to have boars at the start of the series, and there was a whole storyline with them. But we dropped it because it was either too long or too complicated. At the end, I felt bad that such an iconic character from the Asterix universe as the boar only appeared as a roast. I wanted to see living boars. I thought it would be fun if, at the very end, we could have a pure 2D cartoon like Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner featuring these two boars obsessed with snatching vegetables from the garden. And they would intersect with the grand story we just saw. It’s a little extra treat for those who stick around to the very end.”
Considering all the nods and references to Marvel in the Netflix series, this post-credits scene isn’t really a surprise!
